What is it
Essentially, email design is a simple one, it’s the process of purposefully designing and creating an email, or a set of emails that resonates with your business's target audience, specifically your current email subscribers and business customers.
How we do it
Email was born in 1979 and it’s come a long way since then. Email is a titan in the digital world, and hailed as probably the most widely used digital product on the planet. So, on a surface level we do it because email has weight and is important.
But digging a little deeper, there’s a little more to it. In the eyes of many the frontier of emails is a scary one, it remains a place of no coding standards. Many popular email clients do not support standard design techniques and web coding norms, the process puts you through relentless testing across multiple browsers and more than 50 client. All of this makes it a pretty difficult task, a restrictive and somewhat burdensome endeavour, but the main thing we take away from all of this is the constraints.
As designers, we take these constraints as an opportunity to be even more creative, the constraints give us an opportunity to dig out and find new ways to manoeuvre around these obstacles. There’s something satisfying about achieving these wins in the face of them all. So all in all, it’s more than likely this is the true reason we do email design.
